Match Report
Aylesbury’s FA Cup dreams were cruelly blown away like the weather at Haywood Way on Saturday in front of their biggest gate of nearly 700 fans. But it could have been so different after a truly magical first half.
The game had only just got going with barely two minutes on the clock when Gareth Price Aylesbury’s man of the match scored.
What followed put the Aylesbury fans in dreamland after more pressure and fine play. We had a penalty after Dean Brennan was tripped in the box, right in front of referee Hair. Craig Henney coolly despatched it passed Stones keeper Sean Thomas, 2-0 Aylesbury with only eleven minutes gone and both sets of fans rubbing their eyes in disbelief.
After some great play by Aylesbury with interpassing between Gareth Price and Craig Henney, Wealdstone began there fight back with a goal from Greg Ngoyi on 27 minutes and with chances going begging for both sides it was soon half time.
The second half was very much like the first but in reverse, and started with a quick goal for Wealdstone by Ryan Ashe after Aylesbury’s Ben Stevens was caught in possession. So it was 2-2 with 46 minutes gone, but more trouble was on the horizon for Aylesbury as Wealdstone began to dominate.
Then on 48 minutes Kieron Forbes gave the Stones the lead with a shot that hit the left hand post and went in off the right.
Aylesbury just couldn’t get going and began to tire; even when Nathan Graham came on for Kieron Schmidt he just never got into the game.
With 20 minutes left to go Stones’ Greg Ngoyi was given the red card for raising his fist at an Aylesbury player, which was spotted by the linesman in the right hand corner of the pitch and he suffered some abuse from the travelling fans for the remaining part of the match.
Playing against ten men did little to help Aylesbury as the game was over by the 81st minute when Ryan Ashe got his brace to make it 4-2. The dream of a first round place was over, but Aylesbury can take heart after a first half performance that had Ryman Premier side Wealdstone rocking.
Mark Eaton will now set his sights on getting promotion out of the South Midland into the Southern League, starting at Biggleswade Utd on Saturday 31st October.
