Match Report
Aylesbury FC are through to the second round of the South Midlands Challenge Trophy after beating The 61 FC in a nine goal thriller last night. FC came back from 2-0 down to win 5-4 after extra time at Haywood Way against the Luton based side.
With a new face in the Aylesbury goal Matthew Timberlake made a debut he wont forget in a hurry.
The 61 FC went at Aylesbury from the off and Ricky Clark scored on three minutes seeing Timberlake off his line and looping the ball over his head from 20 yards.
Aylesbury could not get into the game. They lost Greg Williams to injury who was subbed for Mark Boyce.
Then to make matters worse Ryan Smith beat Timberlake again with some fine footwork to make it 2-0 at half time.
Whatever was said to the Aylesbury players at the break seemed to work as Michael O’Farrell had a shot saved by the 61 keeper resulting in a corner which Nathan Graham bundled in.
The Aylesbury keeper then pulled off a great double save and began to prove his worth.
Graham came off to be replaced by Craig Henney.
Aylesbury started to play their passing game and push for the equalizer with Gareth Price going close.
Some great play down the left wing resulting in an equalizer by Michael O’Farrell.
With time running out up popped Craig Henney on the 85th minute with another great goal to add to his tally. Just when the Aylesbury players and crowd were getting ready to celebrate, Ricky Clark scored for 61 FC in the 88th minute.
In extra time Kieran Schmidt scored a well worked goal in the 97th minute.
O’Farrell got his second of the night and Aylesbury’s fifth in the 106th minute.
It then became a game of who was the fittest, with players mistiming tackles and praying for the whistle.
61 FC got a penalty in the 113 minute, with Aaron Lewis scoring making it 5-4.
To make matters worse for Aylesbury with only minutes left on the clock, while running down the right wing Gareth price went over twisting his ankle.
So Aylesbury finished the game with 10 men, and like the crowd went home tired but happy.
While the performance of his attack will be pleasing to boss Mark Eaton, Aylesbury’s defensive record in the last two games will be of concern to him.
After a run of seven clean sheets, FC conceeded four goals on Saturday as they crashed out of the FA Vase to Oxhey Jets, meaning that they have now let in nine goals in two games.
They next play Erith in the FA Cup on Saturday.
