Match Report
Aylesbury were held to a 2-2 draw against SSML Division 2 side Pitstone & Ivinghoe last night in their first pre-season game at Haywood.
In the opening exchanges Aylesbury seemed somewhat taken by surprise by their hardworking visitors who also had centre half Danny Ripley debutising in goal and doing a fine job with a string of outstanding saves. Although Aylesbury had the better possession tackles flew in as their visitors gave no quarter, an early tussle saw Aylesbury Player coach Matt Hayward spoken to sternly by the official and then James Faulkner was asked to leave the field for 10 minutes as tempers flared the referee eventually bringing the managers together to calm things down.
Aylesbury had numerous chances to take the lead and but Pitstone continued to look dangerous on the counter attack. The goal came just before half time when Aylesbury right back Mark Boyce surged down the right and unleashed a 30 yard thunderbolt which would have beat both Ripley and another keeper in goal at the same time 1-0 Aylesbury.
Straight after half time Pitstone hit back when Hayward miss judged a long ball and Mitch Hamilton was able to guide the ball over the advancing Smith much to the delight of the visiting supporters. Aylesbury continued to dominate the ball but were still vulnerable to longer balls played over their back line.
Then came one of the moves of the game, Pitsone moved the ball with pace and precision from left to right for Hamilton to finish by sitting keeper Smith on his backside to go to 2-1 up.
Aylesbury quickly hit back through James Faulkner and in truth at the end should have finished the game off with a string of chances one being missed by Price when scoring looked easier.
The game proved to be a good competitive workout for Aylesbury who will know they can play better but the credit goes to Pitstone whose attitude and commitment were excellent all night. With only 2 warm up games left manager Mark Eaton has plenty to think about.
