Match Report
Craig Henney scored Aylesbury FC’s first ever goal in our first pre-season game against SSML Division 1 side Stony Stratford Nathan Graham was also on the score sheet in a 2 -1 win. Both players were lucky to play after an accidental collision in the warm up left Nathan with a nasty gash to his face and Craig missing a tooth. It was ironic that Nathan’s recent professional welter weight contest left him unmarked but he began this contest looking like he had been in with Mike Tyson.
Aylesbury used 23 players in total so the game was somewhat disrupted by the changes in personnel but it proved to be a good work out with some impressive individual displays. In the first half the team consisted of players who would be hopeful of being part of the first team squad and it showed. Aylesbury dominated the half keeping the ball well and camping in the Stony half. Despite their possession Aylesbury were unable to turn this into goals but this will improve as the sharpness and fitness increases, Craig Henney was introduced after 25 minutes and he was quickly on the score sheet turning smartly to fire home (half time 1-0 Aylesbury. In the second half the game got more physical with Stony perhaps sensing that with the introduction of Aylesbury’s young players they could get back into the game. Mid way through the half Nathan Graham opened his account to give Aylesbury a 2 goal cushion. Stony pulled 1 back and then Graham was controversially denied a brace when the he scored again only for the effort to be ruled our by the home linesman much to the surprise of everyone watching.
Overall a good workout with some encouraging signs for the new campaign.
